" Australian shares have lost most of their momentum in afternoon trade, after briefly hitting a fresh record high.
At its peak, on Tuesday morning, the ASX 200 had climbed as high as 7,576 points.
However, by 12:20pm AEST, the benchmark index was up less than 0.1 per cent (to 7,543).
The Australian dollar slipped to 73.17 US cents (down 0.5 per cent).
Some of the best performing stocks were lithium producers Orocobre (+7.2pc) and Pilbara Minerals (+7.4pc), Pointsbet (+7pc), Afterpay (+2.9pc) and Whitehaven Coal (+4.6pc).
On the flip side, gold miners suffered heavy losses, including Ramelius Resources (-5pc), Westgold (-4.5pc), St Barbara (-4.1pc) and Silver Lake Resources (-2.6pc).
Overnight, global markets essentially treaded water following sharp falls in commodity prices, and concerns over the spread of the Delta coronavirus variant, dented investor sentiment. " - Read Full Article
